'Boston Legal': That Catherine Piper's a hoot!
Nothing makes me happier (as I think I've said before) than seeing dear old Catherine Piper on Boston Legal and in the offices of Crane, Poole, and Schmidt. Tonight that fantastic, fantastic woman was back, but rather than having killed someone, she was working at the firm once more. Or, that's what she claimed anyway. Continue Reading

'Boston Legal': A Crane, Poole, and Schmidt Thanksgiving
You know what I think of when I think of Boston Legal? I think of courts and trials. I think of judges and juries. However, there was no court case tonight. There may have been a bunch of judges and a jury, but that's only because there was a friend-filled Thanksgiving dinner at Shirley Schmidt's. Continue Reading

'Boston Legal' shows its spunky side
Tonight, Boston Legal began just like the start of a bad joke – an attractive woman walks into Crane, Poole, and Schmidt (it's kind of like "a man walks into a bar"). I think in its last season the show should try to do a complete joke episode, an episode that is filled with nothing but stale lines from old jokes. However, that wasn't what tonight's episode was. Continue Reading

'Boston Legal' confuses the issue
With all of the show's soapbox arguments, I was a little worried heading into tonight's Boston Legal. I knew that the primary case tonight dealt with parental consent for abortion, and whatever my personal feelings on the issue, it was definitely something the show would do better to handle gingerly. They did, but only because they managed to confuse it with other issues. Continue Reading

'Boston Legal' welcomes back some old friends
Tonight's episode of Boston Legal started out where most episodes usually end – on the balcony. The show always talks politics, so you knew they were going to discuss tomorrow's election and this was how it began. Denny and Alan were discussing the race for president and Denny gave Alan two reasons why he was voting McCain – salmon and women. The man's logic was incredible and perhaps right, but would take hundreds and hundreds of words to try to explain in a way that would make any sense. As the discussion wasn't really germane to the episode, I will not expend those words, so let's just move on. Continue Reading

Watching outside the box . . .unconventional episodes
Last night’s episode of Boston Legal was, as Alan summed up, eventful. The firm has gone bankrupt, Shirley and Carl are engaged and Alan put forth a convincing speech about the state of racism in America. But it was missing one key ingredient – there was no legal. There was no client to comfort, no witnesses to interrogate, opening statements to make or closing arguments to win the case. The show, which always pushes the TV envelope, totally stepped outside its comfort zone. And I think it kind of worked. Then I started thinking about other shows that had unconventional...

Life is good on NBC
Sometimes a show can survive and thrive by the sheer force of the lead actor's performance.
Such is the case with the two new NBC shows returning tonight for their sophomore season. They are both good series built on the foundation of two terrific performances.

Seriously, 'Grey's Anatomy' is back
A TV show shouldn’t make you angry. Yet that’s exactly the emotion I experienced while watching the opening minutes of the two hour season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy (Thursday, NBC, 9 p.m.). I won’t give away anything but I will say that I found the scene simply ridiculous.
